Reet Aus PhD started working as fashion designer on 1997 and since 2002 all her collections have followed the principles of upcycling.

Upcycling is a process that enables to circulate the leftover materials back to the production with the help of design and by doing so significantly reduce environmental impacts.

Reet Aus PhD doctoral thesis (Trash to Trend - Using Upcycling in Fashion Design) opens the possibilities of implementing upcycling in fashion industry and mass production. This led to creating the community platform for the upcycling designers called Trash to Trend.

Since 2012 Reet Aus has been cooperating with Beximco - one of the biggest apparel manufacturer in Bangladesh. The collections have been made by implementing upcycling in early stages of the mass production process. This has improved effectiveness and reduced environmental impacts - each item produced in this way uses on average 70% less water and 88% less energy compared to regular product. Production line performing the upcycling method was Upmade certified in December 2014. Beximco is a member of ILO (International Labour Organisation), meaning they are regularly audited for employees working conditions, salary levels and social guarantees.

Reet Aus is Senior Researcher at the Estonian Academy of Arts. She is also active as costume designer for theatre and film.
